GMT / netCDF Format

Description

GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) is a public-domain collection of command-line routines for creating maps on UNIX platforms. GMT uses a special adaptation of the netCDF format for storing gridded raster data.

How to Import

Choose Import DEM → GMT Raster (netCDF) from the File menu and then select the file, which will usually have the filename extension "*.grd".

Data Source

There is no single source of data in this format, but the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) of NOAA releases the IBCAO (International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean) Artic bathymetry data set in this format (versions 1, 2 and 3).

Data Availability

This format is primarily used for bathymetric data.
